Gala Concert 2024: Puccini's Women by Singapore Lyric Opera [G]
Delve into a world of thwarted passions, tragic destinies, and transcendent beauty at the Gala Concert - Puccini’s Women, presented by the Singapore Lyric Opera. This Gala Concert will present some of the most iconic pieces in western classical music, including ‘Nessun Dorma’ from Turandot, ‘E lucevan le stelle’ from Tosca, and ‘O soave fanciulla’ from La Bohème, just as they were first performed over a century ago.
Join SLO’s Artistic Director, Nancy Yuen, an internationally renowned soprano, alongside long-time collaborators Jae Wook Lee and William Lim. Making her Singapore debut is Daniela Leska, a distinguished soprano from Opera Australia. Jessica Chen, Head of Vocal Studies at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), will also lend her voice to this concert. Narrated by SLO’s very own Adult Chorus Tenor Mik Rossi as Puccini, the Gala Concert will explore the great composer’s life and work at the turn of the nineteenth century.
The performers will be accompanied by the meticulously assembled Singapore Lyric Opera Orchestra, all of whom have been hand-picked by award-winning conductor Joshua Tan. Currently the Principal Conductor of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra, he will lead the orchestra in awe-inspiring crescendos for a grand opera experience.
Adding the vox populi is the Singapore Lyric Opera Adult Chorus, a vocal powerhouse which has supported SLO in many opera productions in the past. Conducted by the SLO Chorus Master Terrence Toh, their united voices will transport audiences away to Puccini’s vibrant locales–from the bustling Forbidden Palace in Turandot, to the cathedrals of Rome in Tosca, and even the serene night of Madama Butterfly.
