Mid-Autumn Family Fun: A Celebration of Traditions and Modernity with the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC)

The Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated all over the world, and is one of the most important festivals in Singaporean Chinese culture. The Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) and the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) are holding a special event called Mid-Autumn Family Fun to celebrate with families at the SCCC cultural hub in the heart of Shenton Way.


The event spans three days from 29 September till 1 October 2023 and features 14 activities specially curated for families and children. The theme ‘Modern Traditions’ encourages families to celebrate Mid-Autumn traditions with a modern twist.


Here are some of the highlights:

 

1. The Autumn Fair

Explore a world of creativity at Makers’ Market where you’ll find a diverse array of handcrafted delights.

This makers' market features more than 50 local and overseas creative makers selling everything from handcrafted lanterns and mooncakes to traditional Chinese crafts and souvenirs.


The Autumn Fair is located at SCCC Ho Bee Concourse Level 1, and Singapore Conference Hall Exhibition Hall, Level 1, on 29 September 2023 from 12pm to 9pm, and 30 September to 1 October 2023 from 1pm to 8pm. Admission is free.


2. Harmonies Across Generations: A Musical Exploration of Timeless Connections

Embrace a heartwarming musical journey as the Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra bridges generations through timeless tunes

This concert features the Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra (ACSO) playing a selection of tunes that have held a special place in their parent's hearts, while parents bear witness to the evolving soundscape of their children's generation.


Harmonies Across Generations: A Musical Exploration of Timeless Connections is happening at the Singapore Chinese Orchestra Concert Hall on 30 September 2023 from 3pm - 3.45pm, and 7pm - 7.45pm. Tickets are priced at $20. 

 

3. Mid-Autumn Crosstalk Celebration

Get ready for a time of fun together with Johnny Ng and Lee Seng Hu at the Mid-Autumn Crosstalk Celebration.

This performance features a group of young talents and veterans such as Johnny Ng and Lee Seng Hui to bring you a selection of hilarious Singapore crosstalk!


The Mid-Autumn Crosstalk Celebration is located at SCCC Far East Organization Auditorium, Level 9, on 1 October 2023 from 11am - 12.10pm, and 3pm - 4.10pm. Tickets are priced from $20.


4. Lantern Walk: The search for Tu Zai

Come together with your family and friends and embark on a mission to find Tu Zai on this Lantern Trail held at SCCC

This traditional lantern trail with a fun twist takes you through the SCCC and Singapore Conference Hall to search for traces of Tu Zai, a mischievous rabbit character.


Lantern Walk: The search for Tu Zai begins at the entrance of the Singapore Conference Hall and is happening from 29 to 30 September 2023 from 7.30pm - 8pm, and 8.30pm - 9pm. Tickets are priced at $4.

 

5. Brew Brew Tea Workshop

Sip and learn as a family, where parents and children explore the world of tea from types to brewing techniques

This workshop teaches parents and children about different types of tea and how to brew their own.


Brew Brew Tea Workshop is located at SCCC Creative Box, Level 6 from 30 September to 1 October 2023 from 1pm - 3pm. Tickets are priced at $19.

 

6. Decorate "N" Play Ocarina workshop

Unlock and discover the art of ocarina decoration while embracing the traditions of Chinese music.

This workshop teaches participants how to decorate and play the ocarina, a traditional Chinese musical instrument.


The Decorate "N" Play Ocarina workshop is located at SCCC Creative Box, Level 6 from 30 September to 1 October 2023, from 3.30pm - 4.15 (English), and 4.30pm - 5.15pm (Mandarin). Tickets are priced at $11. 

 

7. Stories of Mid-Autumn: A Participatory Experience

Listen and learn about the myth of Chang’e and the Jade Rabbit through an interactive storytelling session.

This interactive storytelling session is designed for children and families to learn the myth of Chang'e and the Jade Rabbit.


Stories of Mid-Autumn: A Participatory Experience is happening at Singapore Conference Hall Exhibition Hall, Level 1 from 30 September to 1 October 2023, from 11.30am - 12pm, 12.30pm - 1pm, and 1.30pm - 2pm. Tickets are priced at $4. 

 

8. Ancient Moon, Present Light

Sit back and enjoy the timeless Chinese classics performed by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra and young composers

This concert features the SCO performing a selection of timeless Chinese classics and new works by talented young local composers.


Ancient Moon, Present Light is happening at the Singapore Chinese Orchestra Concert Hall on 29 September 2023 from 7.30pm - 8.30pm. Tickets are priced from $20. 


A festive celebration with your loved ones through a variety of over 12 family-friendly activities


With these and also a variety of free activities available, such as lantern-making workshops, face painting, and storytelling, there’s definitely something for everyone to be over the moon about at the Mid-Autumn Family FUN.
