The genesis of Brahms’s First Piano Concerto, a rhapsodic treasure of the Romantic piano concerto repertory, involved the correspondence and support of none other than legendary Hungarian violinist-conductor Joseph Joachim. Fast-forward 165 years since the premiere, the Budapest-born pianist, Dénes Várjon, joins his Hungarian compatriot Gábor Káli to present this masterpiece of symphonic proportions. Bartók’s well-known Concerto For Orchestra, named for its virtuosic writing for every instrument of the orchestra, makes a terrific showcase of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
