"Untitled" is the sixth work in the Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden Commission series. This inflatable sculpture by artist Shilpa Gupta depicts two bodies that are locked in a perpetual struggle. However, it is only when one walks around the work that the viewer realises that these bodies are balancing on a single head, limbs hovering mid-air and maintaining a delicate balance. The two bodies that make up the sculpture can be read in a multitude of ways. For some, it could look like two beings locked in an eternal scuffle. For others, it could represent the dualities and inner conflict or struggles that we experience in everyday life. With an inflatable medium, the work invites visitors to approach it in a more playful and exploratory manner. This non-traditional approach to art-making opens up new possibilities for engagement and interaction with diverse communities, creating opportunities for unexpected and meaningful encounters.
