"Absolute virtuosity, almost blinding in its incredible purity” (L’ape musicale)
Altenburg Arts and the Orchestra of the Music Makers (OMM) are proud to jointly present virtuoso violinist KEVIN ZHU, hailed for his "awesome technical command and maturity" (The Strad), who returns to Singapore in January 2024 for two evenings of spectacular music.
First, on Friday 12th, a recital opening with two works of staggering difficulty for solo violin, Bartók's Sonata for Solo Violin and Bach's Chaconne. He is then joined by pianist Akira Eguchi in a French selection by Massenet, Debussy and Messiaen, and themes from Bizet's Carmen in a dazzling fantasy by Waxman with fireworks aplenty.
With OMM on Sunday 21st, Zhu will perform Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1, a thrilling virtuosic showcase after a hauntingly eerie opening. Music Director Chan Tze Law will also lead the orchestra through the enchanting harmonic landscapes of Ravel's La Valse, before concluding with Tchaikovsky's famous last symphony, "Pathétique". Stretching across its exhilarating march and lushly romantic melodies is an astonishing musical concept that the Russian composer described as having put his whole soul into.
Come join us as we explore the depth and range of human emotion through these monumental staples of the classical music repertoire!
