Step into the captivating world of opera with the "OPERA 101 concert series", proudly presented by Lirica Arts. You are invited to join a mesmerizing journey through the rich tapestry of Western opera, designed to ignite curiosity and deepen your appreciation for this timeless art form. Opening the concert series with "An Introduction to Opera," on 3rd May 2024, let musicologist and speaker Shridar Mani unravel the mysteries of opera, its music, and its conventions, taking you on a journey of discovering opera: From the courtly intrigues of Baroque opera to the grand spectacle of the Romantic era- the secrets of operatic styles and voice types all unlocked. He will be joined by opera singers Felica Teo, Joyce Lee, Martin Ng, Jonathan Macpherson, Shawn Liew and Japanese mezzo soprano Ai Iwasaki, to allow you to witness the breathtaking beauty and emotional depth of iconic opera excerpts. Experience the power of the human voice as it soars through the intricate melodies and passionate narratives of opera's most cherished compositions. This presents a unique opportunity to embark on a musical journey, as the series demystifies opera and brings its magic to life before your very eyes. Whether you are a seasoned opera enthusiast or a curious newcomer, you are promised an unforgettable experience that will leave you spellbound and inspired. Prepare to be transported to a world of passion, drama, and transcendent beauty, as the series celebrates the timeless art of opera in all its glory. The second part of OPERA 101 concert series: “Puccini’s operas and his heroines” will be a feature on Puccini’s operas and the tragic female figures in his most popular operas like Madama Butterfly, La Boheme, Turandot, Suor Angelica and Tosca, which will be held on 2 August 2024 at the Esplanade Recital Studio featuring Japanese soprano Mako Nishimoto, Korean soprano Renata Hahn, Singapore baritone Martin Ng and tenor Shaun Lee.  Programme:
