SNYO plays Sibelius, Rautavaara and Stravinsky
Finland awakes! With his mighty Finlandia, Sibelius lit afire the Finns' spirit of independence, paving the way for generations of musicians to advance Finnish music. Among them was Einojuhani Rautavaara, who melded nature and orchestra through technology to create his otherworldly concerto for birds and orchestra, Cantus Arcticus. From Petrushka, Stravinsky also expanded the possibilities of 20th century music, taking ballet into a new world of sound and rhythm
