Organised by National Heritage Board, this year’s festival theme, “Art of Play” promises over 50 captivating experiences in the vibrant Bras Basah.Bugis precinct. Imagine a retro amusement park, immersive performances, and mesmerising light projection mapping installations – it’s all happening right in the heart of the city.

1. Wonder World: The Machine of Nostalgia at Cathay Green
Step back into the 1950s at Cathay Green, where visual artist Sam Lo (SKL0) recreates the charm of Singapore’s iconic Great World, New World, and Gay World amusement parks. Enjoy nostalgic rides, games, live performances, and poetry nights while reflecting on the role of nostalgia in our tech-driven cityscape.
2. Between Threads at Peranakan Museum
Transform the facade of the Peranakan Museum simply with your touch and gestures!, Inspired by an unfinished beaded panel on display at the museum, this interactive light installation by Clare Chong, Jennifer O’Connor, and Taufiq Hidayat celebrates the vibrant artistry of Peranakan communities
3. PINBOLA at CHIJMES
At CHIJMES, visual artist Yanyun Chen and visual effects artist Alex Scollay present PINBOLA, a multi-level pinball machine filled with childhood toys and artefacts. This chaotic yet exciting installation, inspired by a visit to a toy museum, uses projection mapping to create fantastical levels.
4. Red House Cafe at Raffles City
Raffles City hosts this light art installation by Jaxton Su, paying tribute to the iconic Red House Bakery. Drawing parallels between the 1960s bakery and today’s cafe culture, Su hopes to foster a sense of connection and shared memories among visitors.
5. First Flight at Armenian Street
Celebrate the legacy of Singapore’s oldest schools with this interactive installation on Armenian Street. Artists Aaron Lim and Quek Jia Qi use giant paper planes to symbolise childhood dreams, inviting you to reminisce about the past and contemplate the future of play.
6. Fortune Beads at Funan Kinetic Wall
Experience a modern twist on the traditional abacus at Funan Mall. Thai artist Natthakit Kangsadansenanon, known as KIMBAB:), challenges you to race against time, touching as many illuminated beads as possible in this fun and interactive installation.
7. Opera in Motion: A Dynamic Tribute to Chinese Opera 剧里箱 at National Design Centre Courtyard
Pedal a tricycle to activate a light projection showcasing an illustrated Chinese opera scene at the National Design Centre. This immersive installation by Ezekiel Wong, Hoo Jian Li, Lim Jia Ren, and Ron Tu pays homage to the captivating world of Chinese opera. Fun fact: The building was home to the Chinese Opera Institute from 1995 to 2009.
