Nights in the Gardens of Spain
Manuel de Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain is a haunting depiction of nocturnal scenes and sultry moods of Andalusia. Spanish pianist Javier Perianes stars in this twilit work where piano melds with orchestra to evoke moonlight, flamenco and guitar amidst the perfume of night. The outstanding British conductor Vasily Petrenko leads the SSO in this attractive programme framed by Tchaikovsky’s luxurious Serenade for Strings and Beethoven’s vigorous Seventh Symphony, the “apotheosis of the dance”.
