Jyoti Dogra’s MAAS is a witty and humorous exploration of aging, beauty standards and body image in an era where society is obsessed with the often-unrealistic standards set by health gurus and social media influencers. In a world where natural bodily changes are commonly frowned upon, this piece challenges those ideas by examining and critiquing the body of the performer. The piece then deftly evolves into a deeper investigation of shame and its subtle, pervasive impact on how we view ourselves and interact with the world. MAAS ultimately is a poignant and provocative examination of how we see ourselves and others in a world fixated on perfection.
