Western Flute & 10-Holed Bamboo Flute [G]
This concert will showcase the traditional Chinese flute or dizi (笛子), with a focus on the rarer ten-hole version (十孔笛) instead of the more common six-hole version. Chinese orchestras have been continuously improving and adapting to modern music by using different lengths and keys of Chinese flutes to accommodate complex musical pieces, whereas the Western flute used mainly in this performance has far less difficulties in playing pieces in various keys. Additionally, the Chinese 10-holed flute has its Vietnamese equivalent, which was originated from the same roots but has evolved differently. Thus, the Western flute, the ten-holed Chinese flute, as well as the 10-holed Vietnamese flute, will all be featured in this event.
