Esplanade Presents | Kalaa Utsavam 2024 Chi Udaka by Taikoz and Lingalayam (Australia)
Experience the deep earthiness of taiko drumming, symbolising earth (“chi”), and the graceful flow of Indian classical dance, representing water (“udaka”), in this energetic live performance. Delicately balanced between drama and elegance, this performance unites the resonant taiko drums of Taikoz, the soulful shakuhachi flute, the rich tones of the cello, and classical Indian vocals with Lingalayam’s contrasting bharatanatyam and kuchipudi dance styles.
This dynamic percussion and dance performance is a collaboration between renowned Australian companies, Taikoz and Lingalayam. Both steeped in rich history and tradition, they come together in a vibrant celebration of colour, rhythm, dance, and music. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body. There will be a post-show dialogue after each performance.
