Esplanade Presents | Voices Festival Mare-Dness – Daytime Delirium By The Art Song Coterie, feat. Joyce Lee Tung
Mare-Dness, a portmanteau of the words daymare and madness, will be a performance journeying through the thorny labyrinth of everyday life—through maddening banalities, disillusionment, disappointment, obsession and loss. Every so often, we find ourselves ensnared in moments and thoughts that besiege our emotions. Will we find flight and light, or will we succumb to the mare-dness?
With humour and candour, this exploration will unfold through the medium of art song, intertwining voice, music and poetry. The performance will feature soprano Joyce Lee Tung, accompanied on piano by Nicholas Loh, with creative direction by Lin Xiangning and verses from the great poets guiding the way.
This performance will include Francis Poulenc’s La Dame de Monte Carlo, Samuel Barber’s Nuvoletta, Robert Schumann’s Der Spielmann, Georges Bizet’s La chanson du fou and the world premiere of Americ Goh’s 7 Songs on a Living.
